Early Algebra in Primary Education

Category

Resource type
document
A longitudinal study of early algebra learning in primary education, identifying profiles among mainstream students and students with mathematical giftedness. The thesis suggests that the superior ability to generalise patterns demonstrated by mathematically gifted students is a key factor connecting them with technology. This ability is fundamental to algebra and also forms the basis of computational thinking and programming. The findings can be used to create adaptive software or technology platforms that build on these students' natural algorithmic efficiency, challenging them and developing their mathematical and technological talent.
